WelcomeCallaly Cottage is situated in Northumberland, the northern-most county of England. In the vale of Whittingham at the foot of Thrunton Woods, the Cottage affords its visitors peace and tranquility and miles of woodland walks. We have 3 spacious en-suite rooms with lovely views over fields and woodland. We have a very large southwest facing room with kingsize bed, the en-suite is spacious with a sunken bath and shower. The notheast facing room is large also with an emperor size bed and a single bed. The en-suite is huge with bath and shower. The other is a southwest facing double room, and has a charming private bathroom with a roll top Victorian bath. All of our rooms have comfy chairs and hospitality trays with a selection of teas and coffee, fresh milk and biscuits are provided daily. Our large comfortable guest lounge has a colour TV, books and games. We also have a lovely cottage garden which our guests are welcome to enjoy. Most importantly, for walkers, there's a huge drying-room! Enjoy freshly prepared delicious hearty breakfasts with local specialities and homemade bread and preserves. Special diets catered for. Situated 10 miles west of Alnwick & 7 miles north of Rothbury Callaly Cottage is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful countryside and heritage coast. Alnwick has its fabulous castle and gardens, home of the Duke of Northumberland and Barter Books, one of the largest secondhand bookshop in the UK. Rothbury is home to the impressive victorian Cragside House and grounds, the Simonside Hills with their ancient history and walks and Brinkburns gothic priory. Close by is the magnificent heritage coastline with its many castles and deserted beaches, and Holy Island with its own C16 castle and C11 benedictine monastery. Many other country houses and gardens await to tempt the visitor. A walkers paradise, to the west are the nearby Cheviot Hills in the beautiful Northumberland National Park with its varied landscape of over 1000 sq. km., of heather moorland, silent forest and tree-sheltered valleys. National park wardens also offer a year round programme of guided walks. The area is well serviced for fishing with the House of Hardy museum and shop and Greys in Alnwick and there are plenty of golf courses and stables for horse riding.
